CHERRY Tree go in search of cup glory for the first time in five years when the league leaders take on Edenfield on Sunday.

The men from Preston Old Road have been in irresistible form of late and have stormed to the top of the Ribblesdale League with a string of six consecutive wins.

Now skipper David Hayes will be looking for his side to transform that scintillating run to the cup against a side who they have already beaten on league duty this season.

Cherry Tree won the cup back in 1992 and are on course for their first league title since 1989 - and Hayes rates the current crop just as good as those glory hunters. He said: "While there is a long way to go in terms of the league we are confident that we can win it. This side is just as good as the one that won the title back in 1989.

"But while we are on the verge of a cup final place we won't be letting that go to our heads. We have a very hard game against Earby first on Saturday and we'll be concentrating on that before we can think about anything else." Fixtures Saturday: Baxenden v Barnoldswick, Blackburn N v Clitheroe, Cherry Tree v Earby, Padiham v Great Harwood, Ribblesdale W v Osw Immanuel, Settle v Read, Whalley v Edenfield. Sunday, Ramsbottom Cup, semi finals: Cherry Tree v Edenfield, Barnoldswick v Ribblesdale W.
