A crafty cat had a purr-fect escape after clinging to the bottom of a van for more than 60 miles.

The five-week-old wonder kitten - nicknamed Lucky - hung on for dear life as builder John Nicholson raced along the motorway at 70mph from Bury to Fulwood.

And after clutching to a thin ledge on top of the van's petrol tank ... the fluky feline had another bit of good luck - it's found a new home!

Cat-lover Gwen Hodson has made Lucky a member of her family after the stray was found under the van outside her Midgery Lane, Fulwood home on Tuesday.

She said: "He heard a miaow, but thought he was hearing things. Then I heard it so we searched and eventually found the poor little thing clinging to the petrol tank. It was very shocked and dirty.

"If we hadn't found it, the builder would have done another 60 miles to ger home home and could have died."

Gwen has owned many cats - including Oscar who once amazingly found his way home to Fulwood after going missing in Penwortham.

Her son Steve, 15, who already owns an iguana called Eric, said: "I can't believe it's still alive. Mum's always liked cats, so I guess it couldn't have picked a better home."

Joiner John Nicholson, from Warrington, who discovered Lucky, said: "How it survived I'll never know but I think it was grateful to be rescued."

And the van's driver, Tottington furniture fitter Adrian Cudworth, joked: "You don't get this every day. I've done deliveries before but never like this. I wanted to call it Speedy."
