A CREDIT Union is about to be launched in Colne.
The decision to go ahead was made at a packed meeting in Colne library on Saturday. The move, by County Councillor Tim Ormrod, has the backing of Lancashire's anti-poverty group and looks certain to be a success.
Church, youth and community groups and individual savers will all be able to take part.
Mr Ormrod said: "There was an attempt to start a credit union in Colne a couple of years ago but it did not get off the ground.
"It was a great shame because they really are a great benefit to everyone who is involved. The credit union in Nelson has gone from strength to strength since it started and it now has tremendous assets.
"I am sure it will take off in Colne this time. This will be an asset to the people of Colne."
