WASIM Akram today returned to London for another scan on his shoulder injury.

Lancashire's Pakistan pace star has already had two scans and a cortisone injection to try to sort out the problem he brought back from a tough international programme in the winter.

But after making another comeback last weekend in the Sunday League victory over Kent at Old Trafford, the shoulder stiffened up so badly that he was not even able to play as a batsman-captain in the current Championship game against Glamorgan at Liverpool.

And rather than be a frustrated spectator, Wasim preferred to head for London for more treatment.

He has made just one Championship appearance this season, against Notts at Old Trafford in early May - and even then he pulled up with the injury early in the second innings.

Wasim has shown his commitment to Lancashire by playing through pain in two Sunday League matches against Northants and Kent but on each occasion that has only made the injury worse and delayed his Championship return.

Lancashire continued to struggle without him at Aigburgh yesterday, Glamorgan reaching 173-1 on a rain affected first day.

Ian Austin claimed the only wicket, having Hugh Morris well caught by Warren Hegg down the leg-side.

But Peter Martin and Glen Chapple were both unlucky in lively spells from the Mersey End, while 20-year-old debutant Mark Chilton also caused a couple of problems with medium-paced away swing.

Glamorgan opener Steve James, who took his tally of first class runs to 672 in 10 innings with an unbeaten 99, admitted: "I needed a bit of luck because Martin and Chapple bowled well."

Rain delayed the start of play today.
