LANCASTER'S Water Polo team were competing in one of the qualifying rounds of the British Deep Water finals last weekend.

They qualified after two victories and a narrow defeat.

Lancaster 8 Nottingham Nova 6

After a tight and somewhat physical battle against a solid side, the local lads came out on top after leading narrowly from the outset.

Lancaster 9 Penguin 10

Controversy surrounded Lancaster's only defeat of the tournament which saw the end of the Dunfermline's place in the competition on goal difference. The game turned in Penguin's favour at the half-way mark. A minute into the second quarter with Lancaster 3-2 ahead courtesy of goals from Love and Burgess, one of the Penguin players was penalised for swimming into Burgess.

Lancaster 13 Dunfermline 5

Lancaster went into their final game knowing they had to win by at least four goals to ensure qualification for the final tournament and facing the difficult task of overcoming Dunfermline who had won both their matches on the previous day. Boosted by the attendance of experienced Mark Smith, Lancaster proved far too strong for the opposition and dominated the game from beginning to end.
