WOULD-BE burglars will be in for a prickly time if they try to go raiding in Nelson at Holly Street.
Houses in the street have just picked up a security design award from the police after they were redesigned as part of the Southfield Renewal Area.
It is the first time that a housing revamp in Pendle has won a prize for its security measures.
The changes came about after discussions with people living in the area, the council's urban renewal team and the police.
Anti-crime tactics introduced feature improved security at both front and back with strengthen door mounts and frames, attention to windows, intruder alarms, lighting and smoke detectors.
The award was presented to Pendle's Mayor, Councillor Jo Belbin by Police Superintendent Mike Griffin. He said: "The police initiative - Secured by Design - has been in operation for a number of years now and the partnership approach is the way forward.
"It must be comforting for the participating residents to know that the security of their homes has been greatly improved."
Mrs Belbin said: "The award is an assurance to residents that security measures in their homes meet the standards approved by the police.
"This helps to make residents feel safer in their homes, as well as saving them money on insurance premiums."
