GED Furey walked off the last hole and straight on to the putting green at Northop Park after a disappointing third round in the Glenmuir Club Professional Championship.
A level par round of 72 for a 213 aggregate left him 11 shots adrift of new leader Brian Rimmer of Trentham Park whose third round 64 catapulted him ahead of Nick Brown who faltered with a 71.
Paul Wesselingh, the former Chorley professional, slipped further back with a 72 and is now seven shots off the pace.
Furey has now given up hope of capturing the title but he will be striving today to finish on a high.
"I missed only three greens yesterday but nothing would drop for me," he said. "It's been like that all week and I'm finding it increasingly frustrating."
Lora Fairclough posted a second round two-under-par 70 to get back to level par in the Evian Masters in France. The Chorley player lies 10 shots behind leader Joanne Morley.
