GED Furey's hopes of a high finish in the Glenmuir Club Professional Championship were sunk by near-torrential rain at Northop Park yesterday.
The Pleasington pro struggled with his putting all week but only went over par in the final round when he shot 73 for a two under total of 286 and a three way share of 24th place.
But Lancashire-born Brian Rimmer was swinging in the rain as he stormed to an eight shot victory.
Former Chorley pro Paul Wesselingh, seven behind at the start of his round, edged to within three shots after reaching the turn in 32.
But his challenge faded when he three putted the 16th then dropped another shot at the last for a 67 and second place.
Chorley's Lora Fairclough shot a disappointing 74 to be tied at 21st, 14 shots behind Evian Masters leader Alison Nicholas in France. Rimmer, already home and dry by this time, made sure with a hat trick of birdies from the 15th, chipping in from off the green for the last of them.
