SOLAR power and recycled paper insulation became part of an environmentally friendly house project which goes on public view in Burnley this week.
Morecambes Lodge, a detached property in Cemetery Lane, is being converted into offices and training rooms for the horticultural charity Fresh Fields Enterprises Ltd, which helps people with learning difficulties.
With £39,000 funding from Burnley's Challenge Fund and extra cash from the European Regional Development Fund and English Partnerships, the work will make the building one of the greenest in town.
Site manager Paul Wilshaw said: "The house will have solar powered external lighting, the roof insulation is out of recycled paper and heating will use energy-efficient condensing boilers.
"Rooms will be lit using an ingenious device to reflect the sun's rays from the roof area and toilet waste will be neutralised and recycled using a natural reed bed sewage system in the Lodge grounds."
The open day will be on Wednesday from 2.30pm to 7.30pm, when a team of expert advisers will be on site.
