WORKMEN chased a sex attacker who pounced on a 15-year-old girl after hearing the terrified victim's screams.
The indecent assault happened in Rock Lane, Burnley, just off busy Todmorden Road as the girl was on her way home from school, at about 4pm yesterday.
She was approached from behind and indecently assaulted.
Her screams were heard by men working nearby.
They chased a man who was seen to get into a car and drive off.
A registration number was given to police by one of the workmen. Last night a man was arrested in the Rochdale area.
He was taken to Burnley police station where today he was being questioned by detectives.
DC Debbie Stewart said the girl was not hurt but was very badly frightened by what happened.
She went to a nearby house and was then taken home where today she was being comforted by her family.
Detective Sergeant Mark Gray said: "There were many people about when the daylight attack took place.
"We would like to hear from anyone with information about any similar incidents to contact DC Stewart at Burnley CID.''
DC Stewart can be contacted on Burnley 01282-425001.
