GOLBORNE businessman Tony Roberts has sacrificed 20 years of his bearded Rasputin-look for charity.
And the big snip came just 12 months after his teenage daughter, Gina, had her hair shaved for the charity JABS
Tony's new-found George Michael-look came when hairdresser Melanie Blease of Norman and Philip's hairdressers in Edge Green Lane, Golborne, took her scissors and shaped his beard - all part of a sponsored bet!
But the outcome has delighted Jackie Fletcher of Gawsworth Road, founder of JABS (Justice, Awareness Basic Support) who is leading a fight for parents who have children they claim are vaccine damaged.
Jackie's own son Robert, now five year old, developed erratic epilepsy, immune system difficulties and has serious learning difficulties after having a Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccine at 13 months old.
Since setting up JABS, following advice from local MP Ian M cCarthy, she now offers support to 800 families throughout the country.
She said: "I am absolutely delighted that Tony went through with his beard shave. I know it was a hard decision after all the years it has taken him to grow it."
And Tony's wife Trixie added: "He now looks totally different. His beard is now about the same length as singer George Michael and he says it is quite chilly at the moment. People have already commented on how different he looks but I think he will definitely grow it again as its his trademark around here really.
"But I know he is happy to have done it for Jackie's campaign."
