A LEIGH primary school has risen Phoenix like from the ashes of a devastating fire last October.
Twelve Apostles RC Primary School was highly praised by the Ofsted inspection team. The leader commented that it was one of the best reports he had ever written.
The inspectors said that Twelve Apostles is a caring school with many strengths - the quality of teaching in the school it's major one.
In over 70% of the lessons seen, the teacher was good or very good. No unsatisfactory teaching was seen. Pupils make good progress and attain high standards in most subjects. Special praise was given to the education provided for the under fives and the children with Special Educational Needs.
Throughout the school, the team of four inspectors found the behaviour of the pupils is good. They are articulate and relaxed, because they feel safe, valued and comfortable in their surroundings.
An inspector said: "Pupils enjoy coming to school and show a strong commitment to work. They have respect for both their environment and the people in it. This contributes towards to high standards of behaviour and work."
The inspectors found the ethos of the school is upheld by the warm, caring environment it provides. They commented: "This is a happy school in which pupils feel well supported and able to do their best. The staff are committed to the pupils and offer positive role models."
The inspectors also praised the school's impressive network of links with the parents, the community and with business and industry.
Headteacher Mike Farrimond commented; "I am extremely pleased that our Ofsted report recognised that XII Apostles is a happy, caring school, that nevertheless encourages and demands all pupils achieve the highest possible standards in all aspects of their development."
