REGARDING Bible Query (LET, June 18). Taking the whole Chapter 21 into context, I believe Jesus was speaking about the (1) self-righteous religious leaders, (2) non-religious crowd: harlot, sinners in general, tax collectors etc.

The Vineyard speaks about the Nation of Israel, Is 5, Ps 80, v 8-16. Two sons represent the two classes of people in that Nation, self-righteous, non-religious.

When John came ministering, the religious leaders showed great interest in his teaching but they would not repent and humble themselves.

The sinners confessed their sins and turned to Christ, humbling and confessing their own unrighteousness.

It is clear in the word of God that again and again the religious leaders resolved the clear evidence God gave them. Their resolution of John was actually a resolution of the Father who had sent him. God, however, is gracious and instead of sending judgment, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ.

Jesus said He would never turn anyone away, harlot, tax collector, thief, robber. There is hope for everyone who comes to Christ Jesus and repents, 1 John 1v 7-9. If we confess our sins He is faithful and just and will forgive us and cleanse us from every unrighteousness.

One thing Jesus said was, John 3 v3: "Ye must be born again."

Trusting this will shed further light on to this question and passage of scripture.
