RAIN was again the big winner as cricket splashed down and out at the weekend.

But Steve Bailey hit a defiant half-century as Leigh posted 147-4 in their match against Huyton.

On a damp wicket he and Greg Dimery put on 31 for the first wicket, the Aussie eventually going for 31.

Bailey's 57 included six fours and a six before he went for 57.

Skipper Dave Dove then added an unbeaten 33 as Leigh pushed towards a declaration. But the rain beat them to it.

When it stopped Huyton had 45 overs to reach their target. But they had the worst possible start with Dimery taking a quickfire wicket.

They had reached 73-1 when the final downpour stopped proceedings.

On Saturday (2pm) Leigh entertain derby rivals Wigan.
