I WOULD be most grateful if you would permit me, through your newspaper, to ask your readers if they have any recollections of the famous Century mobile theatre visiting Blackburn.
After many years of travelling, and a number of years on site at Keswick, Cumbria, the Century has now returned to its birthplace, Leicestershire, where it will be on permanent display at Snibston Discovery Park, Coalville.
I am currently working on the history of the theatre for the Leicestershire Museums Service and am particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have visited the theatre, seen a performance, or had other connections with the Century.
Among the questions I would like to ask are: what did they think of the Century; what plays do they remember; if there was anything special or different about attending performances there; what other forms of entertainment there were at the time and anything else they may remember.
I can be contacted at the: Leicestershire Record Office, Long Street, Wigston Magna, Leicester, LE18 2AH. Tel: (0116) 2571080, Fax: (0116) 2571120 or on email: harrop@deanstr.demon.co.uk.
