A HEALTH club has joined the fight to help prevent heart defects going undetected.
The Inshape fitness centre in Belgrave Square, Darwen, is to donate £5 from every £45 spent on toning table sessions to the Cardiac Risk In the Young organisation, following the death of a member's son.
Eileen Wickers and husband Bill, of Bolton Road, Darwen, whose son, Neil, collapsed and died earlier this year, have joined another tragic family to raise money for a mobile ECG machine to screen for similar conditions.
Granville and Susan Staff, of Carus Avenue, Hoddlesden, began the campaign after becoming regional contacts for CRY, following the death of their son, David, 17.
Janet Westall, who runs Inshape with mum Joyce, said she decided to help after reading about CRY in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.
She added: "The ECG machine could potentially benefit our customers as well. We do not only help to make people fit, we try to make them healthier as well.
"We decided to run a promotion for the toning tables and donate £5 from every course of sessions to CRY."
Janet, 27, stressed that the toning table sessions were ideal as a means of raising money for CRY, because they could be used by almost anybody.
She said: "They are suitable for anybody, old, young, disabled and an ideal way of getting fit."
The first session at the health club is free to allow people to decide whether they like it.
The offer will run until a fun day in aid of CRY in August.
Anyone who can help CRY in any other way can contact Granville Staff on 01254 701807.
