LUCKY Gina the dog is back home safely after being rescued for the second time!

Yesterday morning (June 19), firefighters dramatically rescued the seven-year-old bitch from a 60ft high ledge.

Gina went missing in the woods near the Old Mill Hotel while out walking with her owner Mrs Elizabeth Swift on Wednesday morning.

Twenty-four hours later she was found clinging to a tiny ledge by 14-year-old Carl Marshall.

Following a phone call from a neighbour saying she could hear wailing in the grounds, Mr Julian Swift ran to the woods where schoolboy Carl pointed out Gina to him.

The two tried to rescue the dog but the drop proved to be too dangerous.

Carl, a pupil at Woodhey High School, stayed with the dog while Mr Swift alerted the emergency services.

Fireman Gary Higson of Ramsbottom fire station was lowered down to place a harness around the dog.

Mrs Swift said: "Carl is the real hero. He is a credit to himself and his family."

Gina was rescued for the first time by the Swift family when they took her in as a homeless puppy.

Now she is recovering from her latest ordeal at home in Alfred Street, Ramsbottom.
