FLOATS are being decorated, costumes tried on and dancing shoes polished for the Fylde's biggest carnival of the year.
Lytham Club Day will get off to a roaring start this Saturday with a parade of vintage and classic cars, bicycles and penny-farthings, winding through the streets from 10am, before the main procession.
Then at10.15am the carnival proper starts, led by Lancashire Constabulary police horses, followed by a two-and-a-half hour cavalcade of marching bands, dancers, floats and fancy-dressed eccentrics, many raising money for good causes.
Rose-queens from all over the Fylde always win applause, with the special spot going to retiring Lytham queen Siorna McFarlane, of St Peter's RC Church, and queen-elect Helen Packer, of St John's CE.
In the afternoon the rose-queen crowning ceremony is the central event at Lowther Gardens at 2.15pm.
A family barn dance and ceilidh will round off the enjoyment between 7pm and 9pm in Hastings Place.
THE Lytham Club Day programme, with full details, photos and articles is available for £1 from newsagents, supermarkets and grocers in Lytham, St Annes, Ansdell, Warton and Freckleton, the Citizen office in St Annes or from street-sellers on the day.
