A LONG-derelict site in the centre of Blackpool is finally being redeveloped by Bass Taverns who plan to turn it into a bar with a difference.

The building opposite North Pier is being transformed into a stylish modern day-through-night venue called Edwards.

Bass who have opened 17 Edwards pubs to date in other parts of the country have selected Blackpool for their biggest bar yet.

With Blackpool's unrivalled reputation for leisure and fun they felt it was the ideal location for a larger venture.

"We think Blackpool is the perfect place for an Edwards," the new manager Fiona Ablett said.

In the mornings they will be serving coffee and breakfast to business people and early bird shoppers.

Over the afternoon and evening they will offer food, wine and drinks in relaxed surroundings.

And at night they will up the tempo and the music to appeal to a young and trendy crew.

To achieve the change in moods, Edwards plans to change the music, lighting and even the staff's uniforms throughout the day.

"By doing so," explained Fiona, "we hope to be able to cater for everyone from people wanting a quiet drink to others who are ready to party."

"Our motto is 'Whatever you want, whenever you want it," she added.

The new bar is set to open in early August and they are currently recruiting staff. Anyone interested should go to the Clifton Hotel, Talbot Square, Blackpool on June 28 to meet Fiona and her team.
