A ROBBER who burst into a shop wielding a wooden baton snatched £20 from the till before escaping in a Vauxhall Astra.

The incident happend at about 7.45pm on Saturday, June 21, when the raider entered Longton Lane Wines, Longton Lane, Rainhill, and approached the woman behind the till.

He was brandishing a wooden baton wrapped in cling film and ordered her to open the till. When she complied, he snatched £20 and ran out. He was then spotted jumping into the Vauxhall Astra which may have had another passenger.

The car, which had previously been stolen from Broad Green Hospital, was later found abandoned in Fir Tree Drive, West Derby, Liverpool.

The shop assistant was left shaken but uninjured and described the robber as white, in his late 20s, about 6ft tall with a medium build and rosy cheeks. He wore a dark jacket and dark jeans.
