COMIC Rory Bremner had a crowd in stitches last night and helped boost a cathedral appeal by around £10,000. The impressionist, held up for two hours by a plane problem at Heathrow, was the star of Blackburn Cathedral's Lantern Ball, which helped raise funds for the Lantern Tower Appeal. Guests at the £100-a-head ball were also treated to a seven-piece band, champagne reception and a meal.
An auction was also held for prizes from holidays in Ireland to sewing machines. The appeal was set up to raise money to replace the tower's stained glass panels, which cost £5,000 each. Around 170 tickets from a maximum of 200 were sold for last night's glitzy event held in a marquee at Hoghton Tower.
