HOW long are we going to accept the myth that nuclear weapons are necessary for our survival?
Jonathan Colman's and Mr B. Birches' letters (June 21), state that they are a peaceful influence and that we must have a deterrent to defend ourselves.
When one nation had a monopoly on the A-Bomb, we had a deterrent.
That was in 1945. Since then more nations have acquired the technology.
When any nation decides to use nuclear weapons in a future war, it will not use them to deter, it will use them to destroy. So-called deterrents do not prevent wars. We have had Suez, Korea, Vietnam, Falklands, the Gulf etc.
