DEFENCE Secretary Malcolm Rifkind launched a campaign to rescue the threatened European Fighter Aircraft.
The German Cabinet was set to rubber-stamp its withdrawal from the £22 billion project, putting thousands of jobs at risk at British Aerospace's Samlesbury and Warton factories.
But Mr Rifkind was attempting to keep Italy and Spain on board the futuristic warplane project.
