LANCASHIRE Enterprises plc has lost its 'red rose' title.

The economic development firm has changed its name to Enterprise plc following an annual general meeting of the firm yesterday.

Chief executive David Taylor said the new name would reflect the firm's increasingly national and international influence.

"The company has emerged over recent years as one of Europe's leading economic development specialists. It is a reputation that we are determined to build on as we move forward to the next millennium," said Mr Taylor.

The firm was set up in 1982 as the development arm of Lancashire County Council and became a public company in 1989.
