MORECAMBE'S MP described recent talks to persuade the government to ditch plans for a prison at Middleton Towers as 'extremely constructive.'
Geraldine Smith met with Prison's Minister Joyce Quinn this week to talk about the controversial Home Office proposal. Already the minister has accepted an invitation to visit the former Pontin's holiday camp. "I told her it was an area of outstanding beauty and a prison would conflict with our tourism concerns. I put forward the concerns of my constituents and she expressed genuine sympathy," said Geraldine.
