DARWEN went into the East Lancashire history books this week when the area's first Asian priest was ordained into the Church of England at St Peter's by the Bishop of Blackburn, the Rt Rev Alan Chesters.
Pakistani Christopher Javed Peter, 48, was brought up a Christian.
The father-of-three, said he was called to the Christian faith in 1985 and trained at Queen's College, Birmingham, before becoming a deacon and then curate at St Peter's.
Mr Peter, who is fluent in six languages said he was "impressed with the love and kindness" that his parishioners had shown him and hoped to use his new role to "build bridges between the Asian and English communities."
