LEA Endowed Primary School in Preston bid a temporary farewell to one of its longest serving members when teacher Eileen Kirby retired.
Eileen, who has taught reception and nursery classes at the school in Lea Road for 26 years, will return to the school to teach on a voluntary basis.
She also helped construct a pond, footpath and gazebo in the grounds with her late husband Tom, a former agricultural teacher.
Eileen said: "It's such thrill when pupils realise they can read - they become so overjoyed. I'll be able to enjoy those pleasures without the pressures of the National Curriculum."
She was presented with crystal glasses, flowers and gifts from former colleagues, parents and pupils.
