RESIDENTS will be fully consulted before any concerts are held at Burnley's Turf Moor football ground.
The assurance has been given by the chairman of Burnley Council's recreation committee, Coun John Harbour.
He said the idea of having major concerts at the football stadium had got off on the wrong foot with many people in the area getting the idea that there could be eight to ten a year.
He told members of the full council: "As far as I am aware it is still only a possibility and that we are talking of one or two concerts.''
Consultation would be by questionnaires and public meetings.
Coun Harbour added: "The possibility of concerts at Turf Moor is very exciting and a very good thing for the people of Burnley.''
Coun Gordon Birtwistle said a good many people who lived in the area of Turf Moor had expressed concern and he was pleased to hear what the chairman had said. "I hope what the people say will be listened to,'' he added.
Council leader Kath Reade said the original Press release by the arts and tourism officers had said there would be full consultation.
She added: "But the Lancashire Evening Telegraph on receiving that Press release thought it would be a good idea to contact the residents near to the football ground who had made complaints in the past about noise.''
