LITTLE Hulton's Rob Clews tripped up his old club Atherton on Saturday as they headed for top spot in the Vimto Bolton Association.
With the game between leaders Edgworth and third placed Golborne washed out, a win for Atherton would have seen them go top.
Clews played a leading role in a game that produced a fantastic finish.
He hit a defiant 77 as his side were restricted to 147-8 - only losing his wicket on the last ball of the innings.
Atherton looked to be in with a winning chance after Philip West hit 66 but were left needing six off the last over for victory.
The first ball saw Philip Wakefield run out while Mark Perry was caught off the next to last as Atherton finished four runs short.
Andy's century miss
EWAN McCray put Golborne back in Association title contention with an outstanding display on Sunday.
The talented all-rounder ended last year's champions' recent points drought by taking 8-38 in his side's 81 run win over Elton.
The Bury side were dismissed for 100 while Golborne had earlier made 181-7.
Andy Batterley just missed out on a century at 95 and McCray hit 32.
Atherton bounced back from the defeat against Little Hulton to beat Blackrod by eight wickets.
David Farrar followed up his century on Saturday by top scoring with 45 in Blackrod's 167-8.
That was never enough to deter Atherton and Brian Cole led the reply with an unbeaten 71.
And with Philip West adding 45 not out Atherton won at a canter.
Astley & Tyldesley were beaten by nine wickets against Standish.
A&T were skittled out for 55 and Standish had no problems reaching a winning total.
