A SCHOOLBOY was threatened with a penknife and assaulted by three thugs - for ten pence.

The attackers struck as the 13-year-old was walking along Whittaker Lane, Prestwich, at 4.45pm on Wednesday, June 25.

He was confronted by three teenagers, aged around 15, who threatened him and demanded money. One of the boys brandished a penknife.

The victim, from Prestwich, was punched in the face and suffered a swollen temple. He was forced to hand over 10p.

One of the thugs is described as 5ft 6ins tall, with light hair and a freckled face. He wore a black "Raiders" hat and black jacket.

The second youth was 5ft 2ins tall with brown hair and wearing a white T-shirt. He carried a red penknife. The third boy was about the same height, with fair hair and he was wearing a ring on the index finger of his right hand.
