PROUDLY displayed in a quiet corner of the Waterside lounge was a card from the Queen.
In the royal Golden Wedding year there is something extra special about Jim and Margaret Jay's wedding celebration.
The Leigh couple have been married for SEVENTY years!
Friends and family gathered at Waterside Nursing Home to rejoice with them.
And on Sunday the couple left the Leigh Nursing Home for the first time in months - to go to church.
They were guests of honour for a special service at Christ Church, Pennington.
But it was at Leigh Parish Church on June 25 1927 that Jim and Margaret married about eight years after they first met.
"We formed a partnership," said Jim, now 96. "Everything we did we did together. We never do anything if the other doesn't agree. We talk everything over."
And Margaret, a year younger at a spritely 95, added: "We have always kept busy. We have had a full life."
