TOTTINGTON Public Band has scored success to the tune of £47,520 with a cash windfall from the National Lottery.
Band chairman Mrs Katie Pilling said: "Everyone is thrilled! It is the realisation of a dream.
"It took nine months to prepare the band's portfolio and six hours to fill in the application form, but it was well worth it. This cash boost will help us to offer more children and adults the chance to enjoy this branch of music."
Over the years the band has built up its membership from five to 36. Most members are aged between eight and 16 - but anyone is welcome to join.
Ms Sue Harrison, chief executive of the North West Arts Board, said: "I am delighted to see that Tottington Public Band, which plays a significant as well as historical role within Bury, has received this lottery award."
The band can next be seen marching at All Saints Church in Elton on Sunday, June 29.
Anyone wishing to become a member of the band are asked to contact Mrs Katie Pilling 0161 761 5546, or the bandmaster Mr Jimmy Hill on 0161 797 6227.
"We make no charges for instruction, instruments or uniform. All that is needed is a keenness to learn and a willingness to give some time back to the local community," added Mrs Pilling.
