FOLK no longer in the first flush of youth can teach younger generations a thing or two when it comes to helping others.
We had lots of suggestions for people who deserved special thanks and a word of public recognition for their unstinting efforts.
We can't mention everyone, but here is a sample of what happens.
At 87 years of age, Mrs D Marsden, of Rossendale Road, leads the field. She has driven for the library's books on wheels service for 16 years and helps run the tea bar at Burnley Crown Court.
Mrs Jeanette Goulding, of Bristol Street, Burnley, collects thousands of pounds for charity through sheer hard work, week in and week out. This year her efforts are going to the hospice.
William Rayson, of Stanley Street, Nelson, was nominated for kindness shown to a neighbour. He's not in good health but keeps his spirits up by saying 'life's too short to be miserable'.
Mrs Dorothy Raynor, of Burwen Close, Burnley, and a lively trio from Padiham, sisters Connie and Joyce Thompson, of Woodlands Grove, and Miss Florence Kellet, of Arbories Avenue, have been staunch volunteers with the housebound library service for more than 17 years.
Staff at Burnley Library say they are absolutely brilliant, as are their colleagues including Mrs Joan Rigg, of Ridge Avenue, Burnley, with 13 years and Mrs M Jones, of Harewood Avenue, Simonstone, 10 years.
