THE only way is up for a Morecambe nightclub aiming to establish itself as one of the top dance venues in the North. Work is currently under way to revamp the Empire Nightclub on Morecambe Promenade to turn it into a 'state-of-the-art' leisure complex, creating up to 60 local jobs. Morecambe's NEC, New Empire Complex, will boast the latest light and sound system and will be refurbished according to plans drawn up by the hottest club designers.
The likes of Baby D and Boy George are lined up to perform at the club come September when 1,400 revellers will fill the purpose-built venue.
"We want to build it up into one of the top clubs in the North," said manager Vince de Palma.
"We want to attract people from far and wide and open people's eyes to what Morecambe has to offer. We're determined to run the club as professionally as possible, from door staff to glass collectors, and its modern design will ensure it has a broad appeal."
The three quarters of a million pound revamp will also include a themed public cafe bar at the front, which will be open until 2am.
A Chemical Brothers concert, funk soul festival plus a regular Friday night Rock FM night, with some of the country's top DJs, are some of the other events in the pipeline. There will also be a regular student night and discount for local club members.
Added Vince: "We're looking to attract people from as far as Manchester and Preston and especially the Lakes. We're keen to know what local people want and if anyone has any ideas they should get in touch with us."
