THE case of tragic toddler Tara Jane Howe is to be raised with Government ministers in a bid to avoid similar deadly incidents.

The 18-week-old baby was born with drug dependency, suffered fractures to her tiny body and was starved by evil parents John and Amanda Howe.

The pair, of Dove Lane, Darwen, were jailed last week after pleading guilty to her manslaughter.

Now, Rossendale and Darwen MP and Government Whip, Janet Anderson, said she would be raising the "very tragic case" at a higher level. She said: "It graphically illustrates the problems that can flow from drug abuse. This is why the government is determined to do all it can to deal with the problems caused by drugs. "I shall be discussing this case with Lancashire Social Services to see what lessons can be learnt for the future.

"I shall be raising the results of those discussions with government ministers in the Social Services department to see what more can be done."

Tara's grandmas, Pamela Mackey, of Colne, and Dorothy McArthur, of Blackburn, are demanding to know why social services failed to step in.

During the Preston Crown Court case, John Howe's defence lawyer said the couple were "clearly incapable" of properly protecting the child.

It was "beyond belief" how they were left alone to look after Tara.

Lancashire Social Services said a detailed review of the case could now be completed.

A further statement is expected to be made outlining any recommendations from the review in late August.
