ON reading the remarks (Letters, July 2) from the two correspondents on the deaths by neglect of two babies, I share their feelings of sadness and rage.
What always surprises me is that in these cases no mention is made of the NSPCC.
One can ring up and voice one's suspicions if it is thought that a child is at risk. It is a confidential system and no complainant is named.
It doesn't matter if the suspicion is unfounded. People may fear that there will be reprisals if the alleged guilty party guesses who has complained about then, but I know what I would do.
I would put my life on the line before I'd let a child suffer neglect and cruelty. My conscience would not let me behave any other way.
M JACKSON (Mrs), Chester Avenue, Clitheroe.
