ADRIAN Heath today gave a vote of confidence to the appointment of Chris Waddle as his successor in the Turf Moor hot seat.

And the former Burnley boss also believes Glenn Roeder has a key role to play in the new Burnley management set-up.

"I am pleased for Burnley that they have managed to get someone with a lot of charisma," said Heath.

"And I think it's a very good move to bring in Glenn Roeder to help him. He is very well respected throughout the game.

"It would have been an impossible job to play and be the manager at the same time so he will need someone like Glenn.

"I just hope that he can realise all the dreams and ambitions that I wanted to in my time at the club.

"If he gets the right backing I'm sure he will do a good job." Burnley supporters also welcomed the appointment and wished Waddle success in his mission to take the club out of Division Two.

But they still have reservations about communications between the club and fans and appealed to the new boss to follow Heath's style of open management.

The Clarets Independent Supporters Association chairman Pete Heywood said: "Although this appointment has gone a long way to dispelling the mood of gloom and uncertainty felt by supporters over the last two weeks, we feel the fundamental problem of the board's lack of effective communication with the supporters remains.

"With this in mind we hope that Chris Waddle will continue in the same vein as his predecessor Adrian Heath in maintaining a willingness to be accessible to both the fans and the media.

"Chris Waddle can be sure that Clarets fans everywhere will get behind the team and manager to ensure that Burnley Football Club has a successful and, hopefully, promotion-winning season."
