MEN are more than ever turning to cosmetic surgery as a means of achieving the perfect body.
Forty percent of all enquiries to cosmetic clinics are from men wanting pert pecs and the chin of Desperate Dan. A new survey has revealed however that an overwhelming 84 per cent of women would be put off if they discovered a man had undergone plastic surgery.
ANGELA CREASEY hit the streets to see if Barbie's boyfriend really does have the right idea . .
THE appeal of achieving a Peter Andre style six pack with no more effort than it takes to write a cheque is enticing more and more men under the surgeons knife.
But if Plastic Pete thinks his wife will love the new look when he gets home, he could be in for a bit of a shock.
"It's just so unnecessary," said Julie Donnelly, a cashier from Conway Drive, Oswaldtwistle. "I don't look for the perfect body in a man - it is what they are like inside that really counts."
Students Caroline Stephenson and Linsay Miller, of Audley, Blackburn, agree.
Caroline said: "I prefer men as nature intended. They don't need to have the perfect nose or whatever."
Linsay agreed, but added: "I wouldn't try to stop a man if he really wanted it though - as long as he paid for it. I just don't think they need it."
But if Steve Caswell, who works on Blackburn market is to be believed, women need not fear yet anyway.
He said: "It's unnecessary. You can look good without resorting to a scalpel. If a man was really insecure about his looks though and thought surgery would help, then fine.
"It could help boost their confidence, which is what a lot of women look for anyway."
