PLANNERS are pouring over blueprints for a multi-million pound retail park which promises to create 120 jobs.
The companies behind the scheme, Creswell Estates and Property Division of BG, say the Blackburn site has already attracted interest from national retailers.
If approved, the 64,500 sq ft retail park will replace the former British Gas depot in Russell Street which closed two years ago following privatisation.
Bob Worraker, Creswell Estate's managing director, believes the development - close to Blackburn Arena - will help provide an important gateway to Blackburn town centre.
He added: "We want to provide a quality retail environment and an attractive development which will appeal to consumers and to national companies.
"We believe the proposals would complement the nearby Peel Centre, which totals around 175,000 square feet of food and non-food retail space, as well as the Blackburn Arena."
Both Creswell Estates and BG say their proposals are in line with local plan policies. BG's property manager, Charlie Connoly, said: "We have indicated to Blackburn with Darwen Council that the scheme could be of direct benefit to the town and would have a positive effect on local retailing."
