LEYLAND DAF are celebrating their first win of the season after their last ball victory at Parkside Road over former league leaders Netherfield.
The home side batting first declared at 202 for 3 after 36 overs.
Netherfield's South African professional Derek Crookes was undefeated with 119 and 17-year-old opening batsman Gareth White made 51.
Crookes and White featured in a 157 runs partnership for the third wicket.
Leyland DAF professional and captain David Makinson used five different bowlers, including himself, in an attempt to stop the run feast.
Crookes innings included 7 sixes and 11 fours, with his century coming in 90 minutes.
Eighteen-year-old Duncan Catterall who was practising with the England Test team at Old Trafford was the pick of the Leyland DAF bowlers with 1 for 23 from 9 overs.
He had the Netherfield professional Crookes dropped in the gulley.
In reply, DAF lost opener Antony Moore lbw to Crookes for 12 with the score on 20.
Phil Iddon and David Makinson added 70 runs for the second wicket before the former was run out for 38, with the score at 90 for 2.
They lost their third wicket at the same total when Stuart Catterall was caught by Simon Little off Mark Hadwin, without troubling the scorers.
Nevertheless, the run chase continued with Makinson and Duncan Catterall adding 89 runs for the fourth wicket.
Makinson was bowled by Scott Clement for 65.
His innings included one 6 and 8 fours.
DAF lost their fifth wicket at 193 when Alan Richardson was caught and bowled by Clement for nine. Three runs later Charlie Williams was run out for 2.
Teenagers Nathan Braithwaite and Duncan Catterall saw Leyland DAF home to victory, with Catterall scoring the winning runs from the last delivery of the game.
Catterall's 50 came in only 47 minutes and included 8 fours.
After the match David Makinson said: "It's pleasing to get our first win of the season, Duncan Catterall hit the ball all round the ground but unfortunately will be missing for next Saturday's home game against Darwen."
Leyland hung on for a losing draw at Fox Lane against Kendal.
The visitors batting first amassed 224 for 3.
Their Australian professional Corrie Richards carried his bat for 110.
He was ably supported by Terry Hunte who made 64 before being run out.
Leyland captain and professional Paul Tebay tried six different bowlers but to no avail.
The task was made more difficult when opening bowler Steven Pallett dislocated a finger attempting a caught and bowled chance.
Pallett was the pick of the bowlers with 1 for 25 from 12.1 consecutive overs.
In reply, Leyland lost opening batsmen Chris Sim for 8, caught by Terry Hunte off Kendal captain Richard Ellwood with the score on 26.
Craig Gardner and Paul Tebay added 64 runs for the second wicket before Tebay was caught by Alan Fawcett off Corrie Richards for 33.
Leyland then stumbled losing two wickets with the score on 107.
Craig Gardner was caught behind by James Moyes off opening pace bowler Adrian Potts for 54 and Mark Pallett was caught and bowled by Andrew Wilson for 15.
Half the Leyland side were dismissed for 125 when Nic Gore was caught by Wilson off Ellwood for 16. Leyland got behind the clock and in the end were content to settle for a losing draw.
Ian Oakes and Paul Haydock were undefeated at the end of Leyland's reply, but neither had got off the mark. Kendal captain Richard Ellwood was the pick of the visitor's bowling attack taking 4 for 57 from 17 consecutive overs.
Preston went down fighting against league leaders Fleetwood at Broadwater.
Preston captain Graham Standring won the toss and put Fleetwood in to bat.
Fleetwood's opening batsmen Nick Coultas and their Australian professional Jimmy Maher featured in a 141 runs partnership for the first wicket before Coultas was bowled by Paul Paynter for 84.
His innings included 4 sixes and 12 fours.
Mike Clinning and Maher added 109 runs in an unbroken second wicket partnership as Fleetwood's innings closed at 250 for 1 off 37 overs.
Maher finished with 100 not out and his innings included 15 fours.
Mike Clinning was undefeated with 60 and his innings included 9 fours.
Graham Standring used five different bowlers, with Paul Paynter taking the only wicket to fall for 42 runs. In reply, Preston openers Jonathon Fleetwood and Antony Mann added 32 runs for the first wicket before the former was caught by Fleetwood captain Tony Hesketh off Pat King for 15.
Antony and Paul Mann took the score onto 51 before Paul Mann was caught behind by Nic Coultas off Jeremy Newman for four.
Three runs later Graham Standring was caught and bowled by Pat King for nought.
Antony Mann and Lee Kearsley redressed the balance by adding 72 runs in 49 minutes for the fourth wicket before Kearsley was bowled by opening pace bowler David Fish in his second spell for 17.
Paul Paynter departed at the same total of 126, caught behind by Coultas off Fish for nought, leaving Preston 126 for 5.
Antony Mann trapped lbw by Jimmy Maher for an excellent 87 with the score at 134 for 6.
Preston then lost two wickets for two runs but the Richardson brothers then featured in a ninth wicket partnership of 52 runs in 45 minutes before they both departed at the same total, as Preston were dismissed for 188.
Paul Richardson made an aggressive 41 before being lbw to Pat King and Jon Richardson was caught by David Fish off Jeremy Newman for 13. This left Roger Kaye not out nought.
For Fleetwood, Pat King bowled very well to take 3 for 18 from 10 overs and opening bowler David Fish took 4 for 34 off 13 overs.
This Saturday, (July 12), Preston face a tough test away to league champions St Annes. Leyland DAF are at home to Darwen and Leyland face unbeaten Morecambe at Woodhill Lane.
