REGARDING the demolition of Haslingden Conservative Club (LET, July 7), come on my time machine and I will take you back there 66 years ago. I'm dressed in grey flannel skirt, a blouse with a sailor collar, gun metal Bear Brand stockings and silver dance shoes with low heels. My hair is bobbed with a donkey fringe.
It's only sixpence admission to the Con Club. Our dance teacher is Nellie Marsden and her husband, Jack, takes the money at the door. Here we are taught the waltz, the foxtrot, quick-step, tango and the slow foxtrot.
Then a gang of lads arrives, among them my future husband, Tommy. It was a wonderful time and it is sad when places that hold so many memories are pulled down.
I hope the farewell party on Saturday does justice to the wonderful memory of 'up t'Con Club.'
