ASSOCIATION champions Golborne have been rocked by a double blow following their Lancashire Knockout exit.

Andy Mullaney resigned the captaincy after the match and added that he was not willing to continue playing for the club.

Gary Woodward, the Golborne chairman, said the captain had been concerned for some time about the attitude of some of the players and this latest defeat at Chorley had simply brought it to a head. Obviously we cannot afford to lose a player like Andy and we hope he will reconsider but I know that he has not been happy with the way the team has been performing in recent weeks."

Ian Seddon will now captain the side as they bid to pick up the pieces of the last few miserable weeks in which they have lost their top spot in the Association, missed out in the Cross Cup and now gone out of the Lancashire Knockout.

Mullaney was one of only two batting success against Chorley as they were skittled out for only 89.

He made 27 while opener Andy Batterley top scored for 37, the pace of former Little Hulton pro Ronnie Davies earning him 3-13 off seven while another ex-Bolton cricketer, Keith Eccleshare, had 4-28 off seven.

Chorley then raced to their eight wicket win in 15 overs and now take on another Association club, Clifton, in the quarter finals.
