FOR Fylde families with a very sick child the chance to go away on holiday abroad was something many of them could only dream about.
That was until ChildFlight, a charity specially dedicated to giving families with children with life threatening conditions a break, started taking whole families on holiday to Disney World in Florida.
On the first trip in 1991 they treated just one Fylde family to a holiday break.
Since then that number has increased each year and this September 15 families are being taken away on a dream holiday to the States.
This has only been possible because of the dedicated fundraising by local companies and individuals.
Now, ChildFlight's Fylde co-ordinator Karen Davis is appealing for more people to get involved in raising money to help more families away.
She said: "We rely on donations from the community and although people have made some amazing efforts, every year it gets harder to raise the money we need.
"We only take families who have not had a holiday like this and who wouldn't be able to go on their own because their child's medical condition would be too serious without the full support we offer."
Geoff Moyle, of Barmouth Avenue, Blackpool, whose 13-year-old daughter Louise has a rare bleeding disorder, said: "We went away as a whole family with ChildFlight and it was superb, absolutely brilliant.
"It was a wonderful time for us as a family to be able to get away."
