REGARDING the article (LET, June 30) in which it was claimed that ethnic minorities are discriminated against in schools, what garbage!
My opinion and that of many more of the public is that it is our children who are discriminated against.
It is the Asian children, we strongly believe, who are making less cash available to educate our children to higher standards.
There is expenditure on special needs teachers to teach Asian children basic English, on special buses to take them to schools and on their food requirements. So much money is spent on teaching them English. Yet what language do they converse in together at school? - their mother tongue, Hindi or Urdu, totally alienating our children. That is racist.
I work for a firm which employs a high percentage of Asians. The command of English needs to be of quite a good standard to enable the employees to do their job, but they still insist on conversing in their mother tongue while working and during breaks. Show me the racists!
