MAJOR changes were on the way in Britain's coinage, accused of causing holes in the nation's pockets because of their size and weight.

And, for the first time, the people were to be asked to choose the sizes and shapes of the coins they wanted.

Chancellor Nigel Lawson was to put on view a range of dummy coins, including a shrinking 10p and 5p.
