BRITISH Airways and British Caledonian Airways were to merge to create an airline to rival American aviation giants.
The directors of BA and the BCal Group - often bitter rivals in the past - announced they had agreed on an offer to be made on behalf of BA for the whole of the issue share capital of the BCal Group.
The BCal Group was valued at about £237 million.
