POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a bouncer was viciously stabbed as he walked to meet girlfriend.

Anthony Peters, a doorman at Squires nightclub in Preston, was off work but was on his way to the club when the gang struck at around 1.15am last Friday (July 11).

He was stabbed once in the abdomen in a back alley near Saul Street but managed to struggle to the club to raise the alarm.

Police are hunting a gang of men and are examining CCTV footage taken from town centre cameras.

Detective Inspector Bob Helm said: "We are still looking for a motive.

"We urge anyone who saw anything to come forward." Anyone with information can ring Preston police on 01772 203203.
