PRESTON Borough Council and Preston District Council have officially gone green and been selected for a national environmental award.
The Green Apple Award is given to local authorities who demonstrate an active support of environmental issues.
The awards will be decided and presented in October, and an all-expenses-paid trip to the Faroe Islands is the top prize for two lucky winners.
Preston's submission was based on work being carried out by a variety of groups contributing to Local Agenda 21, a local action plan for saving environmental resources.
Lesley Pritchard, Assistant Health Environment Co-ordinator, said: "The council felt it was important for us to improve our own attitude towards energy conservation and recycling before introducing new initiatives into the community.
"Now, through working with community groups, we are hoping to raise awareness of the wider environmental issues."
