RESIDENTS in Sutton are claiming a 'victory' after an application to build a soil waste transfer site in the area was withdrawn.
The original proposal, put forward by Kevin Grundy Ltd., had prompted opposition from residents living in Lancots Lane who claimed it would result in an unacceptable the increase in traffic.
More than 400 letters objecting to the application were passed on to Marshalls Cross councillor John Beirne told the Star: "I am pleased that common sense has won out. But the Sutton residents won't stop here. We will continue to object to any other applications which harm the local environment. It is time to put Sutton first after too many years of 'blots' on the landscape."
However, a spokesman for Kevin Grundy Ltd. denied that the decision to pull out had been influenced by the campaign, saying: "It was purely a business decision. We got another offer elsewhere and decided to take it up. The decision to withdraw was in no way influenced by any political persuasion."
