LEIGH head into the final weekend of the league season on a wing and a prayer.
They are battering at the promotion door, keeping in touch with Rochdale and Hunslet with a hard-earned 21-16 win at York.
But, with an inferior points record, they need a touch of luck if they are to get out of Division Two this time.
They MUST beat Lancashire Lynx at Hilton Park on Sunday and HOPE that York can pull off a major shock at Hunslet.
If they don't, Keith Latham's side will go into winter hibernation haunted by that last-gasp defeat at Batley at the end of June.
Their destiny now lies with a much-improved side which last weekend gave them a hard time before Leigh finally got to grips with the situation.
York, showing good home form, finally fell to the golden boot of scrum-half Chris Wilkinson, who, returning from suspension, landed four goals and a drop.
York had bounced ahead when Aussie stand-off Peter Fitzgerald ran from inside his own half for a fourth minute interception try.
But Leigh showed great character to hit back, stand-in winger David Ingram crossing for a try set up by John Gunning. Wilkinson's goals saw them at 11-4 by the half-hour mark. Two tries from hooker Alan Pallister changed all that.
How Leigh needed that interval pep talk, responding efficiently with crucial tries for Hill and Fairclough.
LEIGH: O'Loughlin; Sarsfield, Hadcroft, Hill, Ingram; Gunning, Wilkinson; Street, Jenkins, Pucill, Like, Nixon, Fairclough. Sub: Patel, Smith, Blackburn, Darlon. Attendance: 721.
